As it is Maori language month, I was really interested to read these Maori proverbs.

Here are the proverbs I feel my project connected with. In bold are key words describing the essence of the proverb.

Aroha mai, aroha atu

Love received demands love returned
Mutual respect

Ahakoa he iti he pounamu

Although it is small it is a treasure
Every bit counts

He hono tangata e kore e motu; ka pa he taura waka e motu

Unlike a canoe rope, a human bond cannot be severed.
Relationship

Waiho i te toipoto, kaua i te toiroa

Let us keep close together not far apart
Sustain relationship

He pai ake te iti i te kore.

A little is better than none.

Every bit counts

Whaowhia te kete mātauranga

Fill the basket of knowledge.

Willingness

E iti noa ana, nā te aroha

‘Although it is small, it is given with love.’

Every bit counts

Ko ia kāhore nei i rapu, tē kitea

‘He who does not seek will not find.’

Willingness

Tē tōia, tē haumatia

Nothing can be achieved without a plan, workforce and way of doing things.
