The Kiwiana section was slightly more tactile than the Colonial Era. If the ‘windows’ into glimpses of popular culture weren’t enough to provide a ‘feel’ of that time, information cards on the objects were there for back-up, in English and Maori.
Compare to the earlier beginnings of the exhibition, this Kiwiana area moved from a historical and factual context to a social and culture arena. More AUDIO support in this series, such as things we identified in certain eras, i.e. dial-up, horse racing, as well as sounds we began to identify as uniquely Kiwi, ie. Tui bird call. The artificial grass is a very nice touch as it instantly asserted our known identity as green, outdoor nation. It bought warmth to the exhibition opposed to the ‘usual’ museum feel of the Colonial era.
